My brother was born with Sickle Cell Disease. The doctors diagnosed him as a baby as having the worst form of the disease and pretty much said he'd have maybe a good 8 year life expectancy.
During those early childhood years me and my mother ran him to the emergency room at least 2-4 times a year due to "painful crisis" which would leave him hospitalized for days and sometimes weeks at a time and many times could be treated with nothing short of continuous IV drip of morphine.
In fact, now that I think about it... I believe he was about 8 years old, I think, when it was during one of these extended hospitalizations when his IV was pumping f

When I was a young boy, on my bedroom wall used to hang a huge poster of Michael Jackson in the Billie Jean video with the glowing blocks and the glitter glove.
When I was born, Michael had already enjoyed an amazing career that very few artists will ever match. In my lifetime I watched him kick all those previous successes to the curb and go solo.
Michael Jackson is an artist without equal.
I have nothing but respect and appreciation for his life and his work. I doubt many of us could have done what he did given his life circumstances.
And what he did was change the world.

I hope this birthday is one to remember! 
Soon, it's going to be yet another regular day. Birds will sing...cats will meow...dogs will bark...geese will honk and steal peoples stuff.
A typical, simple, regular day.
However, there is a small, tiny, exception. The exception is for you, for that is the time when lightning was thrown from above by Zeus to herald your appearance. Cast in the molten fires of Mount Olympus, and granted with a great creative power, you have been released upon the world to conquer it in whatever manner you see fit! For it has been foretold by those who can see the future that you are great and true, and that it is your time to shout your joy to the heavens, and revel in the knowledge that on that day, it is written for you to have a Happy Birthday, with many more to come to increase your power and complete your creative conquest!
Also there's hand made cake and ice cream from down the street. Those folks make some mighty fine cake indeed. Yum!
